AbstractHartling, Florian, Thomas Wilke, 2003 [2005]: Das Dispositiv als Modell der Medienkulturanalyse: Überlegungen zu den Dispositiven Diskothek und Internet. In: SPIEL: Siegener Periodicum zur Internationalen Empirischen Literaturwissenschaft. Jg. 22 (2003 [2005]). H. 1. S. 1-37. EnglischThe following essay discusses the concept of the "Dispositiv" (apparatus) as a model for the analysis of media culture, which combines changing structures of perception with different aspects of technology, institutions, social politics and aesthetics. Thus, the concept of the "Dispositiv" is suited to be a comprehensive model for the analysis of media, their powerful integration in social reference systems, as well as their historical contexts. Therefore a model of the "Dispositiv" is suggested to be a comprehensive concept of media historiography, which is based on considerations by Michel Foucault and which includes further theoretical approaches of media studies. By going back to Foucault it ought to be possible to regard phenomena, which are to be constructed as "Dispositiv", not exclusively as media related "Dispositives". Also, the "Dispositiv" structure of phenomena with regard to their social aspects shall be taken into consideration. The theoretically developed structural model allows for different initial positions, different perspectives and prospects, and it shall render a manageable description of media culture. The objective is to outline a theoretical foundation which is rather a program than a research method and which represents the common starting point for more comprehensive analyses of the "Dispositives" discotheque and Internet. After discussing the general structural model it will be described by using the examples of the analysis of the "Dispositiv" structure of the discotheque, as well as the Internet from the perspective of a forming and changing "Dispositiv". |
